My artwork is generally rather quiet and thoughtful. Each artwork invites contemplation. By creating art I, personally, am saying “This is how I see the world. This is what I find interesting. This is what I like.” But each viewer, with their own experiences, biases, etc., is going to have a very different interpretation of my work and therefore going to relate to the artwork in very different ways. That is what I find so interesting and rewarding as an artist….the opportunity to have viewers relate to my work on some personal plane. I make art for myself first but I also want, and enjoy having, an observer view the work and interpret it in their own way – to touch on things that are relevant to them personally.
Although my work varies greatly in subject matter one thing remains constant: I believe my artwork creates a mood or sets a tone. It is this generated atmosphere that starts to tell a tale – creates a narrative if you will – and draws the viewer in. I strive to envelop the viewer with this atmosphere so that they can more easily connect with the artwork and be conscious of the narrative. What that narrative is exactly is really up to the viewer. I cannot tell the them what to see, I can only give them an idea to build from. My hope is that they see something they can connect with, relate to and is interesting to them.
