I
will now talk about myself in the third person…
Michelle Isbister McGilp is an emerging
Canadian artist currently residing in Calgary, Alberta. She grew
up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where she received her Bachelor
of Fine Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1995.
After receiving her BFA Michelle worked as an artistic consultant,
professional ballroom dance instructor, and even tried her hand
at hairdressing. After growing very disillusioned with hairdressing,
Michelle went back to doing her artwork on a full time basis.
With the support of her husband and income from teaching art classes
as well as taking the odd portraiture contract, Michelle was able
to fully immerse herself in the role of a “full-time”
artist. She loved it. She experimented with new styles of painting
and became very re-interested in drawing. Having recaptured her
love of doing art she became quite excited when her and her husband
moved to Calgary, Alberta . Although she loves Saskatchewan very
much, Michelle saw greater opportunity to advance her art career
in the bigger city and it also gave her the opportunity to expand
her artistic skills into an area which had been attracting her
interest: graphic and web design. Upon moving to Calgary Michelle
enrolled in a Multimedia Design school. She completed her 8 month
course in December of 2001 and since then, has been a graphic
design consultant, working primarily on traditional design projects
along with website development. Although she enjoys graphic and
web design, her love and passion for traditional artwork has not
disappeared. Although she hasn’t spent a considerable amount
of time with a paint brush or pencil over the past year, she plans
to revitalize her art career while at the same time, continue
to develop her career as a graphic designer. Look for Michelle’s
original artwork in local and national galleries over the next
few years!
